Path of Fire, Guild Wars 2’s next expansion, launches on September 22 – less than two months since its reveal. Publisher ArenaNet has an incredibly tight marketing window to debut the expansion and they’re starting out strong.
Starting tomorrow, August 11, and lasting through the weekend, the public will be able to get their hands on the expansion’s demo. The preview weekend will include the first part of Path of Fire’s story, which unlocks the Crystal Oasis map. Players can freely explore this map, play all the new activities, and earn the raptor mount.
Everyone can jump in. If you haven’t played Guild Wars 2 before, start a free account and you’re good to go.
Guild Wars 2 has a thriving community. It’s smaller than other MMORPGs. It’s design and scope is very different and idealistic. Sometimes that has worked out. Other times it has alienated players. Today, Guild Wars 2 really is a different game then it was five years ago. It’s a cliche, but it’s worth saying.
One thing Guild Wars 2 shied away from in the past was mounts. Path of Fire adds five new maps and each one is larger than any map yet. ArenaNet finally introduces mounts and they’ve designed each one to feel very different.
Path of Fire aims to offer more content than Heart of Thorns and retails at $29.99. The price tag is significantly cheaper than its predecessor.
All in all, there’s a lot for MMORPG fans to be excited about. Check out the video below for a quick look at what’s coming. The free preview weekend begins August 11 and lasts through the 13th. Path of Fire launches September 22 on PC.
