Creative Assembly’s newest preview takes us up close and personal with the fearsome Chaos Warrior army. The real-time strategy game does it justice – expect an abundance of mutations, horns, and spiky armor.
Sega announced a partnership with Games Workshop in 2012 to develop multiple games with the Warhammer intellectual property. Creative Assembly was tasked with developing a Total War series. Total War: Warhammer, which is to be released on May 24, 2016, will be the first title in a trilogy.
Warhammer is a turn-based tabletop game set in a gothic fantasy world. The game has existed as a tabletop game for decades, and has partnered with other companies to create video games, books, and movies. The universe is robust and is an excellent setting for developers Creative Assembly.
The Total War series combines turn-based strategy and real-time strategy to control an army on a massive battlefield. The camera is controlled by the player. You can take in the whole battlefield from the sky or wade through the armies on the ground.
Warhammer will be a good fit for Total War’s formula. While the tabletop is turn-based, Creative Assembly’s experience with blending of real-time and turn-based strategy should help translate the unique gameplay and make it accessible to both longtime fans and new players.
Watch the preview below to witness the hellish might of the Chaos army. Hellfire versus Empire artillery, chaos giants versus a celestial battle wizard, it all looks addictive.
